I establish a center line off the edge I created on the jointer and position my headstock template marking the tuner holes. Then I position the fretboard and drill small holes through the fret slots and use small pins to lock the position in place. The small pins are just tooth picks, and I use 6 of them. After I’ve clean out the fret slots, I like to add a slight bevel on the slots before installing the new frets. I usually do this with a V-cut nut file but you can certainly use other files as you please. Fret wire doesn’t necessarily have 90 degree right angles all the way up from the tang to the bottom of the fret due to the extrusion process used to make the fret wire.
